Newest generation da Vinci Xi® robot on its way to GPH
Dec 15, 2015
Greenslopes Private Hospital continues to expand its robotic surgery program with the newest generation da Vinci Xi® robotic surgical system coming in 2016. This second robot will mean more access to advanced minimally invasive surgical options for patients with diseases and conditions in the areas of urology, gynaecology, colorectal, head and neck and general surgery.
The da Vinci Xi® is the fourth generation of the da Vinci robot from Intuitive. It is the next frontier for minimally invasive surgery offer a full range of da Vinci® Systems optimized for highly complex, multi-quadrant surgery and simpler, single-quadrant surgery. It provides surgeons with a greater range of motion, added dexterity and precision, extended instrument reach, and improved high-definition 3-dimensional vision inside the body thanks to a new endoscope and digital camera system.
The new overhead arm architecture and arm joints give greater access to areas of the abdomen, pelvis and chest from multiple directions. This allows what we call multi-quadrant surgery. For some complex surgeries which are difficult to do other than as traditional open procedures through a large incision, the Xi robot means these may now be done as minimally invasive surgeries through several small incisions, which offers substantial benefit to patients – less blood loss, less pain, shorter hospital stays and quicker recovery and return to regular activity.
Once the second robot is installed at Greenslopes Private Hospital more surgeons will have access to the da Vinci® robotic surgical system which ensuring more patients can benefit from this leading technology.
Greenslopes Private Hospital was the first hospital in Queensland to offer robotic surgery in late 2008 and since then our surgeons have performed more than 3,000 robot-assisted procedures making it one of the busiest sites in Australia.
