Men's health role

Feb 28, 2017

The Chairman of Robotic Surgery at Greenslopes Private Hospital has been inducted as the new President of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand.

Adjunct Professor Peter Heathcote said he is excited to be an integral part of USANZ, which provides education and advocacy for urologists and urological services, while also training, accrediting and examining trainee urologists.

“Australian and New Zealand urologists are among the best in the world and I want to ensure our focus on excellence in training, research, clinical practice and, above all, patient care remains paramount,” said A/Prof Heathcote.

The Brisbane-based urologist, who operates at Greenslopes Private Hospital, has special interests in prostate cancer and robotic surgery.

“When we discuss urological excellence, there is perhaps no more relevant topic than the emergence of robotics,” said A/Prof Heathcote.

“The use of robotics in surgery holds the key to our industry advancing beyond what is possible by human hand … I think it imperative that we start to look at ways to increase the awareness for these procedures.”
